Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Research in Human Development, the University of Tennessee Boling Center for Developmental Disabilities and the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities recently released the new IDD Toolkit. This new toolkit is a website with health care information for primary care providers and nurses to better care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Several checklists and disability-specific tables may help guide medical treatments and preventive care for both children and adults. Sections also address informed consent and behavioral and mental health concerns, including information about crisis management and prevention. The IDD Toolkit is an adaptation of Canada’s Tools for Primary Care of People with Developmental Disabilities (Surrey Place Centre, 2011) and funded by the Special Hope Foundation, Palo Alto, CA.
